Paul Kotz

Paul Kotz's career brings to Small Studio a treasure trove of knowledge and experience in both design and digital.

He first graduated with a BA in Graphic Design from RMIT. Then he stepped into the nerf-balled halls of the dot com boom working as a designer at Australia's old, new-media monolith, Sausage Software. It was at Sausage that he learned about web design, when 'new media' was actually new media.

Growing his breadth of interactive knowledge he joined Magian Design Studio, an organisation focused on designing and developing interactive kiosks and museum fit outs. There he grasped the value of high quality content and the importance of the curatorial process.

Seeking the opportunity to work in a smaller studio, Paul was the first employee at then fledgling web agency Reactive Media.

He later became a part-owner and steward of the company's day to day business while the company grew and became more competitive.

As a youngster of 24, the appeal of being a creative outweighed the responsibilities of managing a business and Paul eventually moved on to be a designer at Spin New Media and Madman Entertainment. There again he extended the application of his creative and production knowledge. This time to key art, DVDs and entertainment-focused websites.

Once Paul had been exposed to a range of creative organisations, and watched innumerable trends come and go, he was ready to start his own business.

He knew that by having a small and efficient set up, it was possible to offer high calibre expertise on projects that would normally miss out. Thus in 2007, Small Studio was born.
